OUR VISION
S.M.I.L.E. Productions strives to expand the professional scope and strengthen the creative bonds within the Huntsville arts community. Artistic skills like choreography, playwriting, singing, acting, dancing, and modeling are sustainable career paths, just like science, engineering, and technology. We believe that careers in the arts in Alabama should be just as viable (and available) as careers in other industries.
With this belief in mind, we are preparing to launch 141 THE SPACE: a creative arts center designed to boost opportunities for local talent and instigate a much-needed shift in thought and practice when it comes to sustainable arts-related careers. We want to make it possible for our diverse local talent to stay local and thrive within the arts scene here at home. Most of the professional touring productions that travel to our city hire a local musician or two but offer little else in the way of employment for home-grown talent. When the show closes, they pack up and head out to the next venue, taking our city’s money with them. The time for change has come. We intend to invest in our own city and our own citizens, developing opportunities for our professional talent to thrive both creatively and economically.
THE ARTISTIC DIRECTOR
ANDRAVY
Andravy was born and raised in Los Angeles but has traveled the world as a stage and film actor, recording artist, choreographer, visual artist, poet, writer, lyricist, designer, director, and producer. His innovative and energetic work has resulted in distinctive accolades. He has been described as “The one-name wonder” by The Star Tribune and “Creativity personified” by Arts News British Colombia. Over the course of his creative career, Andravy has partnered with fellow artists such as Billy Porter, Keith David, Jennifer Holliday, and Gloria Estefan, to name just a few.
Andravy’s talents span a broad range of artistic skills. He has modeled under Roy Blakey and Horst Rechelbacher and designed for La Cage, Las Vegas, and many Broadway Musicals. As a choreographer, Andravy has delivered unique and exciting work for Atlanta Hair and Ebony Fashion Fair. He is the former choreographer for L.A. Intrim Dance Company, Vancouver Dance Theatre, and Dance Waves BC. Proud Member of the Alabama Arts Council, Artistic Director of SABA International School of the Arts, Huntsville, Master Choreographer/Instructor for the Huntsville Ballet Company and Master Choreographer for L.O.F. Meridianville.
Andravy is a member of SAG/AFTRA/EQUITY/ASCAP. As the Owner-Artistic Director of Mayes Black Dance Theatre LLC/SMILE Productions, he enjoys using his many abilities to advance the hopes and dreams of others. He is especially proud of his latest musical release, ANDRAVY DREAM.
